@einLesenderArbeiter Cuba was a capitalist country and thriving before the before the revolution in 1959 which Fidel Castro assumed power by force then turned to communism when Cuba took up arms with the USSR during the Cold War. The rise of Fidel Castro and turn to Communism was Cuba's undoing before the embargo took place in 1963.

I was a communist i soon started to notice myself that socialism works better than communism and capitalism because like your really going to work for the same price as someone who can't pull there weight are you? No! Also you don't want to work with a screwball who gets the parents to pay there way around things eg education, in life are you? No! Proper socialism not marxism works best because the the hardest worker and the well educated gets the most money and a better position in real work.

maybe marxism isnt the best system in the world, but i dont think youre giving the trade embargo enough credit for cuba's economic downturn. before the embargo, the US was one of cuba's best customers.

Have you looked at a similar index during the height of the Cold War when more Socialist countries existed? - i.e Czechoslovakia, USSR, Hungary, Vietnam, etc?

That index which you draw an erroneous conclusion from has the USA, New Zealand, Australia, & Ireland in the top 5. Norway is NOT socialist! Your aim to deceive others is pathetic.

@Sildesalaten: Socialism in practice never lived up to its ideals. When others criticize Socialism in practice - some claim that what we point to is not REAL SOCIALISM. ROFL. That is hypocritical, a double standard, and a joke. Why do I say this? . . . Because many of you like to preposterously criticize Capitalism by alluding to the war in Iraq (as an irrelevant example). You like to criticize it in practice and not in theory - but cry when we criticize Socialism in practice. Capish?

@Sildesalaten : The "Scandinavian model," e.g the Swedish Economy and others ARE NOT purely socialist. Their primary objective is to maintain a welfare state - not a Socialist state with collective ownership and where the factors of production are ALL owned by the government. Sweden, as an example and paragon of the Scandinavian model has a high, re-distributive income tax within a hybrid capitalist economy that allows for the private ownership land and large companies like Ikea, etc.
