  • Ive been wanting to learn for a while now and its cool knowing its possible to teach urself =]

how much does like a pretty good one go for?

  • you can get a pretty one for probably 600 at sitars etc. I bought this for 300 at a folk store

  • ive had a sitar since 2002, im also guitar player and not indian or trained. your quite abit better than me, i cant really give you any pointers as your too darn good!

only thing i would suggest is try playing with your elbow resting on the top edge of the body but it doesnt seem to hinder you at all

would you mind doing a vid with the tunings of the main strings so i can tune my sitar into yours? i think mines way off as none of the sympathetic strings are resonating off mine.

  • yes absolutely, itll be a couple days

  • Very nice playing! I really enjoyed it!

  • Find a teacher. Your heart is in a good place, but you must find a teacher. Also, sitting in half-lotus is necessary to play correctly. It hurts. That is part of it. Learning sitar isn't for the faint. You must practice for hours each day under the guidance of a true guru or teacher, in uncomfortable positions, until your fingers ache and crack and bleed. This is what it is to be a true sitarist. Good luck, friend.

  • hey ..you play good sitar ..

but please remember to play it in a right posture..the sitar must be near your chest and your all fingers should move together..

keep it up you play good sitar..

  • The Sitar is a version of Veena. The instrument of the Goddess Sarasvati who is the deity of art, music, and knowledge!

When you learn without a teacher you are considered a student of hers. I am also a student of Sarasvati when it comes to Sitar. But she has blessed you waaay more than me (: I've been practicing for 1 month hahaha, but it's addicting and very very fun!

  • hi i like your sitar playing

  • I thought that was bloody brilliant mate :o)

My son is looking to learn sitar - he's wowed by your technique!

  • I have a question to you all. I really want to be able to play the sitar and I now have a chance of buying one. Is it a good idea to do so even if I won't be able to find someone that can teach me to play? Is it really a good idea to try and learn myself? My dad knows a little (very little) about the sitar so at least I have a starting point

  • Hi,

you play very well. Even i have been playing for one year without a teacher. Have a look over my video. Also could you tell me, while stretching wires do you have to put too much stress as if they will break. Because my problem is when i try to stretch wires i have to put a lot more stress which makes it difficult for me to stretch for a while. Have a look over my video Sitar sahib 2 and if you could give me some tips it would be great,

    Thanks
