Chapter 38: Joe

I want to be there for you .I kept replaying those words all day at school. It wasn't like that was the first time I heard someone say those words to me since the accident. My brothers and my dad constantly promised me that. But for some reason it meant more to me coming from Demi....I didn't know why. I was walking over to my locker when I noticed Cody flirting with a girl from the distance. He seemed to be really pressuring her and pressing his body into her. The girl seemed to be discomforted and I noticed her persist to push him off her. I kept my pace but didn't take my eyes off Cody, as I got closer I began wondering what girl would push away male attention. I thought about it for a little bit and then it hit me. Demi! I began to quicken my pace until I got closer to them, sure enough I could hear her familiar voice with each step I took.
"Don't touch me Cody!" I heard her yell
"Babe, we can make this work out" He said running his hand up her thigh.
"She told you to get lost" I told him quietly. I noticed Demi turn to look at me with a surprised look on her face.
He turned around and glared at me "What do you want Jonas?"
"Just leave the girl alone"
"Oh yeah, who's gonna stop me" He said moving closer to me.
I had no interests in fighting this idiot, I had more important things to deal with "touch her again and you'll see" I told him as I began to walk towards my locker. He stared at me then walked away. I heard Demi hurriedly close her locker and call after me
"Joe wait!" she yelled.
I turned around and found her running towards me. I smiled lightly and waited for her to catch up.
"Thanks a lot Joe" she said walking down the hall with me.
I knew she didn't like being touched, I just didn't know why. But I would give her time. "Its no big deal, he shouldn't be touching you if you don't like it"
She just stared at me silently as if she had never heard someone say those words to her before. It was almost as if she got the wind knocked out of her.
"Demi? Are you okay?" I asked her worried
She shook her head slightly as if to clear her mind then nodded "Yeah I am."
The bell soon rang and I began to walk towards my next period class. Classes were pretty boring. I wanted this day to be over so badly...........but there was always football practice.
"Joseph pass the ball" Coach yelled at me
I threw it over to him with all the force I could manage and it landed neatly in his hand.
"Jonas! You've got one heck of a throwing arm!" He yelled back at me
I got to practice a little early and started playing catch with the coach but soon the cheerleaders started to fill the field. I found my eyes scanning for Demi until I saw her. Perfectly toned legs, perfect abs, gorgeous face.and an even better soul. I stared at her talking to her group of friends.
