Just because Jonathan Frid referred to "his partner" in an interview does not mean he's gay. The partner he often refers is his business partner, Mary O'Leary.

MERV GRIFFIN interviews "BARNABAS COLLINS" ... actor Jonathan Frid (1969).
Personally, I would run home from 5th and 6th grade every day to get home to watch this show.
He said he used an 1800's coffin, relates the story of an actress who refused to do scenes in a coffin (she was deathly afraid).
His fan mail was combo "exotic," normal, plus "morbid" mail. Some people meeting him really believed he was a vampire + he might bite them! (a boy asked him: Please don't be so mean to Willie.)

Has there ever been a TV show when the host doesn't say, "Where's your hometown?", the audience applause and the guest says, "I didn't know there were so many ********ins here tonight!" followed by laughter???

it is so nice to see this interview in the 2000's.. he is a family heroe!! He looks really elegant and nice.

I don't know if you've ever watched the original Star Trek series, but Barbara Bouchet was one of the hottest Start Trek babes EVER. She played "Kelinda," an alien hottie who Kirk has a minor flirtation with, in the episode entitled "By Any Other Name." She was a major babe in her day. Very much into fitness.

He was Dracula.
Awful interview. Merv fails to rein him in. He just blabs. (I like that ultimate-flatter comment by Merv at the intro, so telling: this "young man" -- well Frid was in his mid '40s). Just a lame, lame example of the boring nature of television in the day.

@countingmx Not sure what your issue is. I think this is a classic and rare interview by a great actor and great interviewer, but that's just me. You have to be into 1960s culture to appreciate it perhaps.

And in an homage to the original show, there's even a boom mic shadow following Frid around in the PSA.

Is the blonde woman between Jonathan & Merv, Sharon Tate??

@leafas Good guess, but it's Barbara Bouchet, who was a big star back then.
