  • do you unload your own truck.or does the company that u deliver 2 unload it?

  • @candigirl1970 No, we don't unload our own truck & that is a very good question because this is not the case for everyone. This carrier is "Dry Van" & some "Reefer" units. When we reach a location where they do not have warehouse workers to unload they make us pay for a "Lumper" (company pays), these lumpers make $40 to higher that $300 to unload the truck. I know some drivers who will unload the truck to make the extra money and one guy who had a heart attack & died doing it. see my next comment

  • @candigirl1970 Trucking is the one business the darn driver has to pay to unload the goods the buyer has ordered! TALK ABOUT A RACKET! Also, you should realize that some training carriers do have accounts where the student DO have to "lump" freight. That is the term to ask but always remeber that recruiters lie and they are not made aware of the truth because "LURING" people into trucking is part of the gig. Werner is one training carrier I know how who requires students to lump freight

  • You just never know right, great story towards the end .. I did notice today two major trucking companies are looking for drivers. They make it look so neat/nice on TV :) Good luck out there and be safe always. :)

  • @gtusmc05 Yes, they do make it look easy on TV. I had many adventures during my training. a tornado, a hurricaine, had bleach thrown on me... I am retelling the story in video so people can think about how they would react in some of these situations. Everyday is certainly an adventure in trucking . Thanks for the comment

  • Gotta love freakin' tweakers.. Had one shake me up for $40 one time... I never carry cash anymore, only use a Paypal Debit card that pulls directly from my checking account with pin..

  • @vtwinbreed Crimes against truckers is something we really do not hear about much but Allen Smith from "Ask the Trucker" will be doing a blog talk radio show this week on the topic.

  • @fin1964 Well I cannot speak for indpendants but I would say if the have the "hook ups" and a reputation of good service they do pretty well from what I understand. Military contracts, specialized hauling and so forth but it takes a great deal of discipline to live on the road & dedication.to be safe

  • great Job! I have a question is it real heard for a independent to make a living if they own thir truck?
