Breaking News: Former Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele is the new Republican National Committee Chairman. The first African American to lead the Republican Party.
Former Ohio Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate J. Kenneth Blackwell is running for the chairmanship of the Republican Party. An African American Republican, Blackwell was the first African American in my state of Ohio to run for the governor office.
Unlike most Republicans and conservatives who try to paint African Americans as "racist" for supporting Democratic President Barack Obama, the Republican Ken Blackwell gained less than 20% of the African American vote in a lopsided governor's race. Overwhelmingly African Americans supported Democratic governor Ted Strickland, a former congressman from Lisbon, Ohio.
Now in a sense of redemption, Blackwell is competing with fellow African American Republican, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, Michael Steele, former Tennessee Republican leader Chip Saltsman, and current leader Mike Duncan. Each seek viable gains as leader of the Republican National Committee.
