MMA vs Traditional Martial Arts

@MrYattix There are only two possibilities
1) If someone is good enough, they can beat a skilled opponent using only wet-willies and head-noogies
or
2) Some techniques are better than others.
.
Fighter and techniques used. Both matter equally.

@MrYattix Since anecdotal evidence is only slightly better than worthless, how does one discover what actually works in a fight?

@MrYattix My issues with WC is they excuse their failure to prove anything to the rules of MMA, which is bullshit. Unlike most combat sports that started out with rules to restrict themselves to techniques and skills they specialize in, MMA started out with no rules but rules started to exist when there were severe injuries that were unnecessary while still determining who's the better fighter at the end of the day. Even during early MMA days, WC practitioners were getting destroyed.

@MrYattix Yes. I'm aware of arts that are practiced more for health, cultural, self-challenging purposes, such as Capoeira, Taekkyeon, Kalari, Lucha Libre, Tai Chi, etc. Not everything in life has to deal with MMA. However, Wing Chun heavily brags and claims its superiority over boxers, MMA, and other arts but yet, cannot prove anything in any contact competitions nor have any evidence of wing chun ever working out in the streets while making people think Ip man and WSL are gods.

@EdDy4RheelZ The difference is - you can choose to get in a ring, but you (largely) can't choose whether or not you get in a street fight. Those of us who don't have anything to prove, but who want to defend ourselves, can choose TMAs and train them hard and realistically and be as confident as anyone else.

@Annuisance If you're really a fighter, then you'll realize that fighting contact is very important. Most arts that have sport version of them are the ones that have trained realistically and fight effectively, such as BJJ, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Savate, Sambo, Boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling, Judo, Kyokushin Kumite, TKD, Sanshou, Shuai Jiao, etc. Arts that don't have sport version of them where they never practice any type of contact are the ones that fantasize and live in their own world.
Very well said. I myself do TKD & I hear this stuff all the time that "TKD doesn't work" etc. There is a misconception that TKD is all about kicks. But real TKD inculdes effective punches, knees, elbows, fingertip thrusts, palm strikes, & also some trapping & grappling techniques, so it is pretty well rounded. It doesn't matter what martial art you train in; what matters is that you can use it effectively. I guess it's also subjective i.e. what works for one guy will not work for another.

@XAD0MAZ0K1ZT1KKUNT Precisely, I don't know why so many people have a problem grasping this concept.

Ever since Bruce Lee became famous, many Wing Chun schools started overpricing their kwoons as if their art is mystical, secretive, and deadly that's unique and superior to other arts. But MMA has debunked this and it clearly shows that there are other martial arts or combat sports out there where you can learn to fight more effective, more quickly, and a much lower price while gaining self-confidence, strong discipline, and also develop sharp mindset. Wing Chun is a fraud art.

@EdDy4RheelZ MMA hasn't debunked anything at all, it's rise in popularity hasn't taken anything away from kung fu or any other traditional martial art. MMA fighters have discovered the best way to win competitions against other MMA fighters is a combination of wrestling, muay thai and BJJ - which is great but has no effect on TMAs whatsoever. Saying WC is a fraud is hugely insulting and inaccurate.

This has to be one of the best things I have heard!
One thing you left out though it is evident from your video. Mind set TMA gives you a good mind set a different discipline and respect. Most MMA fighters want to prove something "most" but like you said most TMA have nothing to prove, they train in hopes they never have to use there art.
In any case I have to agree both arts can be just as affective depending on the individual and the situation!
Thank you for this video, I commend your instru
