Mankind has modified the environment in a myriad of ways over the
millennia. The history of human development our energy systems,
settlement patterns and exploitation of natural resources is
inextricably linked with the history of the environment. Some
scientists even argue that human action is now of equal magnitude to
geological forces, driving global environmental change on a planetary
scale.
Prof. John McNeill of Georgetown University is one of the worlds
foremost environmental historians. This Sunday he joins Think Globally
Radio to provide an account of how humans have shaped the world that we
inhabit today. Along with explaining critical processes and turning
points in the modern history of human exploitation of the environment,
Prof. McNeill, who is also a scholar of international relations,
discusses major contemporary problems such as the struggle against
climate change and the spread of infectious disease.
Thank you for posting this! Interesting!
