Attempts to sleep fail me but time keeps marching on and soon enough I'm finding myself near to Osaka's port . It's a place where I would eventually pay over 4000 yen for a taxi to my hotel (at a location relatively close to the harbor) and then go on to pay only 690 yen for a train to an entirely different city (Kobe). Oh well, worth it for the experience right? Anyways, since I've been bad about posting written content to my blog as of late, hope these travel videos make up for it.
I take it you tried to sleep in the 2nd class cabin on the floor? Tough to do when people are puking all night due to rough seas...I took the Beppu to Osaka ferry as well and that is around the north side of Shikoku so it is protected from the massive swells of the Pacific Ocean. I was able to sleep soundly on that trip but the Miyazaki-Osaka ferry goes out in the open ocean where it can be incredibly rough (and dangerous).

Thanks for posting this. I used to live in Osaka and I took this ferry about 15 years ago. I went from Osaka to Miyazaki and it was during typhoon season (think it was late October). I went to surf in Miyazaki. The ride was incredibly rough because there were remnants of a typhoon south of Kyushu. The boat was rocking like a toy boat. They wouldn't let anyone outside on the deck due to high winds and waves. People were seasick all night. It was pretty terrifying. Kyushu is amazing.
