Melanoma and skin cancer is usually a concern for adults who have basked in the sun for years. However, as Nancy Johnson reports, young children are also at risk as cases of melanoma in children has doubled in recent years. Sicle cell aneamia is prevelant amongst certain ethnic groups in Africa. It is virtually non existent in Ethiopia, north Africa and neighbouring countries. It is also thought to prevent malaria.

Vitamin D deficiency is not common amongst only blacks, and infact a few minutes exposure to the sun is enough for most people of any colour.
