Recently, the breeding herd at White Oak was divided in order to place females with unrelated males. Staff was able to utilize an enclosure with particularly heavy natural vegetation. This new environment simulates the forested area of the natural habitat of the bongo, and the animals can avail themselves of the copious plant undergrowth on which they will feed. The mountain bongo, Tragelaphus eurycerus isaaci, is an elusive antelope found in the mountains of Kenya. Its dark red coat with distinctive stripes is perfect camouflage for blending into the forest undergrowth.

  • @msexybeastp Buffalo are still Buffalo? Cattle is a defining word for farmed/domesticated animals. and up until 1920's Buffalo were considered part of the Antelope family.

  • @PAAKWAMEPAA Buffalo are cattle and not antelope.

  • I thought that the forest buffalo was the largest forest antelope in Africa.
