This video highlights the late president Cory Aquino at her finest moments as well as the defining moment of democracy in the Philippines, in 1986. For that moment in time, the Philippines and the Filipino spirit of solidarity was at center stage for the world to see.
"People Power" was born and is now forever part of history. In 1991, in her State of the Nation address (SONA), Cory Aquino reflects on People Power as "a reserve for nation-building, we tapped with such marvelous results."
Some key quotes from her speech then:
At 1:26 "God demands no less of us than that we follow our conscience. God will take care of the rest."
At 1:56 "People power - a reserve for nation-building, we tapped with such marvelous results."
The movement, now known as Gawad Kalinga (GK), has continued on with the momentum brought about by people power - the dreams and aspirations of Cory and Ninoy Aquino, for a better Philippines, built on love for God, country and its citizens, built on the foundation of solidarity and caring for one another.
Get involved. Put words into action. Be part of the solution. Be part of our nation-building efforts. Find out more about Gawad Kalinga here:
