August is the busiest month of the year in Japan for travel, so when Ryuhei had five days off of work during OBON, the Japanese Holiday, rather than visiting families and waiting for the dead to come home, we instead hopped on a boat and visited Iki Island.

Iki Island is very accessible from Fukuoka, but it is actually property of Nagasaki Prefecture. It's a self-sustaining island, and most of the food available there is home grown, and sold by the farmers themselves. The island has a modest population of about 30,000 people.

(Bobbyjudo actually visited the same island during Golden Week, so if you are interested in seeing Iki from another perspective (and during a different season) check out his video!)

For those of you interested, this trip was during the peak travel season in Japan (the most expensive time to travel) and it only cost us $150 each. $50 for the round-trip ferry, and $100 for the place to stay--which included two DELICIOUS meals. It didn't cost us any money to play in the water or explore the island.

I wholeheartedly recommend this trip to anybody visiting Japan. :)

  • is he really married? the video he was in when they talked about marriage and wedding, it clearly stood it was a FAKE marriage so other customers could see what it would look like when they were going to rent the place ...

  • @SoraElizabeth He's not married.

  • I live in Saga and went to that island a few months ago. I got stung by about two hundred jellyfish and my girlfriend drove our rental car into the side of a building.
