Matt Molloy and many other traditional flute players use throat for articulation instead of tongue.

This video is from 1987 so Molloy was probably still playing his Boosey Pratten.

Reviewed comments. Nobody mentioned That Matt was probably playing an Olwell flute, which he plays now.
