actually: russia has a lot of oil and gas. The worln needs even more oil and gas. oil and gas are expensive. when russia sels their oil and gas they get a lot of money for it.

also the soyuz is a real bargain compared to the shuttle cus it's the only mass-produced launcher, capsule in the world.

I think this is going to make a real difference not just for the russians but for space exploration in general. trhese guys have a way of doing a lot using modest funds.
