It's really great to see that you have the disease under control as far as it not ruining your outlook. I really admire that in a person. Good for you man

To all you guys going through this bullshit I am so sorry and I hope that you treat yourselves well. Love yourselves even though you are going through so much pain physically and emotionally. Bless you all
What did you use to keep the skin from reacting to the burning waste? Do you rinse off with water every time? I will have my takedown to use my j-pouch the end of this month 2/2010 at 58 year young! Had the regular ileostomy for 3 years before my j-pouch surgery 12/09. Love the videos! Laura Beth in Houston

I have a video about Butt Burn and J-Pouch. The skin mostly burns in the beginning, the first four weeks or so after my takedown. I tried a variety of anti-itch creams. Some work better than others. I also took showers frequently, sometimes twice a day, and made sure to clean my skin well.
Occasionally I have burning issues now a year later and when they come up I try not to wipe as hard when going to bathroom and just clean my skin better.

so i am only 14 years old and after a long very hard year when i was 12 (including a surgery, multiple colonoscopys, easily over 50 tests) the doctors determined that i have UC (at 13)
I do miss a lot of school do to flareups and just the general feeling of being unwell but i don't know how to explain this to people that I have UC. I have been struggling of how to explain this to kids my age, so if you can think of a non-disgusting way of explaining UC, I'd be much appreciative!!!
Thank you!

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you are going through so much at a young age. unfortunately, many kids your age might not understand the disease. I know it isn't a cool disease so whenever I tell people about it I basically say that UC makes you go to the bathroom a lot and leave it at that. If people care about you and are genuinely interested then you can tell them more in parts. You probably won't tell anybody all the details, but people will ask you how you are doing from time to time.

hey, great vids. i currently have an ileostomy, and i was wondering what the difference was between the j-pouch surgery and the takedown surgery? or is it the same thing? thanks.

The j-pouch is when they make a pouch out of the end of the small intestine. Most people, though, have to wait a few months for it to heal before they use it, so they still have an ileostomy, this time a diverting loop ileostomy.
Then, when it is time to use their j-pouch, the ileostomy is "taken down" and sewn back up. Then they can start using their j-pouch.
It's basically two parts to one surgery.
