pearl river

Pearl River

gray day on the pearl river
ancient beauty now brown
winding through a new sea
of commerce and tall buildings-
strange and beautiful speech
echo through five-star havens...
business deals over croissants
and black bitter coffee-yet
fishermen still make their catch
this air heavy in sweat
these streets teeming with
natives walking
with glorious faces
and untold life...
