Almost every single Lovano video has someone whimpering "I dont like his sound...yuck ugh :(((( boohoo." Pickup his recording called "Tenor Legacy" and listen to "Web of Fire" (Lovano, Josh Redman, Geri Allen, Christian Mcbride, cant remember drummer). You'll start digging his sound after hearing that. Also get his earlier stuff with the Vanguard / mel lewis / thad jones band and his other album called "Rush Hour"

Hey
I saw Joe live rehearsing for a concert in Portugal, and he played a very VERY strange song which i loved.
Unfortunately, i cannot remember the name of the song, so... Does anyone know any strange sounding songs played by him?? I don't know whether it was a cover or not, but i suspect it might have been something from Dizzy Gillespie.
The thing i remember was that the last note was completely off and it sounded so beautiful...
Thanks in advance

@Parvenu333 you are hearing wrong.

man Mraz has got his bass up really high. Amazing solo though.

is joe lovano jewish?

Mraz plays a killer solo, it's just the tune that sucks. Honestly, it's so contrived that even when the harmony is played perfectly by such great players, not to mention the amazing rhythmic interplay between Al Foster and George during George's solo, you still can't hear anything relevant. It's meandering and unfocused. All fantastic players, but such a bad tune.
