The Brown Hornet was a show-within-a-show (or more accurately, a cartoon-within-a-cartoon) on the Filmation animated series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids from 1979 to approximately 1984. The Brown Hornet was a show that Fat Albert's gang watched on a barely-working television in their clubhouse.

The Brown Hornet was a bumbling superhero who always seemed to thwart the evil-doers and teach viewers a valuable lesson in the process. In each opening, The Brown Hornet and his sidekicks Stinger and Tweeterbell the Robot were facing certain doom until the Brown Hornet used his superpowers to save them all. But at the end, the group faced a new threat.

The Brown Hornet's name is a play on the name of the live-action hero The Green Hornet. But in character, the Brown Hornet is closer to a parody of Space Ghost - a space-faring, caped superhero.

Voice cast: The Brown Hornet - Bill Cosby Stinger - Lou Scheimer Tweeterbell - Erika Scheimer Announcer - Norm Prescott/Lou Scheimer

The Brown Hornet Designer - James A Simon
From the episode "Handwriting on the Wall".

  • Heck, if Brown Hornet and Legal Eagle had their own series, it would have saved Filmation from foreclosure.

  • @Wridde23 They could've spun the Brown Hornet show into a live action movie starring Bill Cosby!

  • @XOtericate Thank you for uploading, i had forgotten about this cartoon. If you notice, it sounds as if Brown Hornet slowly over-enunciates his syllables when he speaks . I think this was Bill Cosby's way of promoting proper english amongst black youth and it was in keeping with the didactic lacing that was characteristic of Filmation cartoons. Bill Cosby and Filmation....a couple of elements the last two generations sorely missed, don't you agree?

  • @EL3minutero I couldn't agree more. I've been a fan of Bill Cosby since childhood, and I'm still a fan.

  • The Brown Hornet could have been an animated series of its own like the Simpsons are today. Too bad.

  • @Wridde23 It would have been a great spin off series from Fat Albert.

  • @tummielvr Yeah, I love Tweeter. I'd love to know what she'd look like as a human.

  • @Wridde23 Yeah, that would be awesome. One thing I will say though, is that Legal Eagle only appeared 1/4th the time, but the Brown Hornet is still better.

  • I would have to consider the Brown Hornet to be one of the three most powerful superheroes - behind only Superman and Batman. The Brown Hornet's power comes from being so jive and cool under all duress.

  • @abombinreverse IF HE WAS PRESIDENT..I DOUBT IF THER WUD B ANY WELFARE AVAILABLE FOR NON WORKING PPL THAT CAN REALLY WORK...AND ALL LOW INCOME PPL KIDS WUD B REQUIRED TO GET "HOOKED ON PHONICS" NSTED OF NAME BRAND SHOES AND CLOTHES.....LOL...LOL...BOY WUT A DAY THAT WUD BE...AHAHHAHAAH
