Music sound better than arcade!

I've run into several situations in a Gradius game where I got plastered by those stupid Bacterian ship generators because I didn't have Double activated.
It's really not about which weapon rocks or sucks, but just how to use 'em in a given situation.

@SatoshiMatrix1 I was like that at first, but you don't even realise the potential double actually has.

@edgeninja You're half right. It has an 8-bit processor but a 16-bit GPU. The PC-Engine's CPU while 8-bit is also clocked at a higher speed than the SNES's CPU. And the PC-engine can display more onscreen colors than the SNES. SNES can do up to 256, PC -Engine can do up to 482.

@poopskinTheLiar Try switching to WinAmp with the Nezplug+ plugin. You can use a text INI file to adjust the fadeout and such to get solid recordings. Also, WinAmp can write to disk.

1 person can't take dying.

@SatoshiMatrix1 In the First Gradius Double is very important especialy on the 4th stage It allows you destroy enemies faster and safer thats why i use Double 90% of the game.
But remember Double in other Gradius games are not the same such as in Gradius IV where double is bad unless its Tail Gun.

so like, is that big spaceship at the end causing the volcanoes to erupt?
im liking how the stage has 2 versions of the level 1 theme

I'm trying to make MP3 rips of Gradius and Salamander PCE using Foobar2000 to rip MP3s from the HES files available on Zophar's domain, but i can't tell how to keep Foobar2000 from making the tracks from fading out at the end so they loop...

Honestly, i consider this and Nemesis the best ports of Gradius. Konami did a excellent job of arranging the music (The TG16/PCE Appears to use a sound system similar to that of the MSX+SCC), and it might actually look better than the arcade version.

The moral of the story: don't trust any "Bit" marketing slogans. The SNES may have better graphics and sound, but the PC-Engine can actually come very close to SNES graphics quality, while simultaneously having more CPU power for more complex game mechanics.
If you don't believe me, compare Parodius SNES version to PC-Engine version. Not bad for a CD-sized console released in 1987!

The CPU has nothing to do with the amount of colours being displayed. The CPU of the PC-Engine is almost twice as fast as the SNES CPU, which is the reason why there are so many fast action games on this tiny little platform. The 65816 is a weak 16 Bit CPU (in reality, it's just an 8 Bit CPU with 16 Bit registers) and yield a slower speed at 3.58 Mhz than the Hu62C80 (6502 compatible) at 7.16 Mhz in the PC-Engine. In terms of colours, the PC-Engine easily beats the Genesis.
I didnt mean it literally, I shoulda said loosely based XD
