I am reasonably confident that the anesthesia provider likely sedated the patient, sprayed the mouth and pharynx with a topical local anesthetic and did an awake laryngocscopy and was aware that it was going to be an easy intubation. As well, it appears from the surroundings that this may have been in a 3rd world country and a fiberoptic of Glidescope may not have been available.

l'm sure he had his plan B in case DL fails, but no need to perform anything other if dr. is feeling comftbl dealing with situation, and it's not like an CRNA is performing anesthesia...
