It's mostly technique. Grip strength is also important, but that's about it.

pretty good rip, but hes ripping them one at a time, hes spreading out the cards so he only rips it one at a time

Where does it show me spreading the cards out? It took me a few tries to finally get through them, but I ripped in one big tear.
