Listen carefully to the sounds that are floating all around you. Are you listening to the sounds that are coming from far away? Are you listening to the sounds that are coming to you from the nearest point? Can you distinguish one sound from another? Are you aware what thoughts are arising in your mind when the sounds are reaching you? And as you listen to the sounds are you able to relax, let go of things and savor the present moment without making any effort? Listening to the sounds can be very therapeutic. It can help you to relax and stay in the present.

There is an effective and easy method to practice meditation within your easy reach. It is by listening to the sounds, the very ordinary sounds which you may perhaps not listening in you day to day life due to your preoccupation with various things. When you learn to pay attention to things in your life, you will learn to pay attention to yourself. This can be practiced anytime during the day or night and wherever you are. All that you need to do is just listen, pay attention, to the people who are talking to you to the sounds that are reaching you. by listening, by paying attention to the sounds, you learn to gain control over your own responses.
