CN, EJ&E, IC, Metra, BNSF, WC and Amtrak action in Homewood and Willow Springs, IL. 10/01/10

The morning starts off in Homewood. My main intention was to capture a Wisconsin Central locomotive, that had been switching the yard for a few weeks. At the Railroad Park, a southbound stack train pulls out of Markham Yard for headroom, not long after coming into the yard. Once the crew headed back, they would yard the train and take the power to the necessary spot.

A southbound, Metra Electric District train, departs Homewood.

Not long after the southbound, a northbound Metra Electric arrives at Homewood.

The Markham Local departs the yard, headed south to Matteson, where the crew would drop their train and head back to Markham, light. Notice the IC test car.

After spending some morning time at Homewood and not seeing the WC, I headed to Hodgkins, to see what was happening. As I was pulling up to the crossing, I saw a headlight. A road switcher heads east into the GM Yard. I love the Leslie on the leader.

A couple hours later, that transfer would become the L CHI102. The trio of Geeps sounded great in run 8.

I was then back off to Homewood, in search of that elusive WC. While driving around, I spotted WC 2001 doing some switching way back in the yard. I hung out at the Amtrak Station for a good while. While waiting, a southbound light power move pulled out of Markham, preparing to switch tracks and head back into the yard.

Right after the light power went back into the yard, a southbound Metra Electric came into the station.

When a Metra Electric comes in from one direction, expect the counterpart, shortly after. A northbound departs the station.

Another southbound Metra Electric arrives at the station.

It took a little while, but the WC finally pulled far enough out of the yard. As it sat a little further down the line, the sun even came out, allowing for some great pictures. How fitting to couple it up with an EJ&E SD38-2. Two great railroads that have fallen to CN. The WC would switch Markham, for a few more days, before heading back to Canada.

Another Metra Electric train departs the station, this one being a northbound. I really like the horns on these.

After receiving permission to head back into the yard, the WC/EJ&E combo is seen again.
