DanceFest 2011, held at the Stamford Center for the Arts in Stamford, CT, not only was a festival of dance but also included Master Classes, the first of which was Ballet, conducted by George De La Pena. One will learn a great deal about the poetry and athleticism required to do this art form by watching a real pro show young dancers how to accomplish this difficult task in proper fashion. Enjoy.

Forgot to add Cary Brown's contribution as without music, the magic of ballet simply disappears.

  • Excellent :-)

a good rendition of "O mio babbino caro" ("Oh My Dear Papa") on the piano .

Not many boys on stage for Romeo and Juliet? but that was played well too, Carmen was good

    thanks for posting the video

  • @tom99uk Thank you so much for the kind comment. I learned a great deal about dance when I did the series. I agree it's too bad boys don't pursue this most demanding and aesthetic art form but maybe, in a small way, this will change some kids minds in viewing just how physically demanding ballet truly is.

    Best

  • Après une répétition comme ça !!!! Quel bon prof!!! Mesdemoiselles, Messieurs, je vous l'affirme vous irez loin. Quel plaisir à vous regarder danser...!

  • @Seekballet AMEN!!!! Being a good teacher means concentrating on the bodies of your dancers- not worrying about yourself. I demonstrate full-out when it is necessary and spend the rest of the time developing my dancers' problem solving skills. Thanks for stating what many people may not understand

  • @MsElenasunny

Actually, that would put a lot of Excellent teachers out of business. Teachers that know that we are NOT to PERFORM in full power for our students. Students at the level he is teaching should already know the basic principles of ballet and should not need a full out demonstration from a teacher at that level. If a full out demonstration was needed for every class then teachers would spend all of their time taking class and little to none of it teaching!

  • I can tell you ballet is for all ages until you feel it is beyond you. I am 64 and until four months ago when I started taking pilates intensively I thought there was no hope. I am now physically and mentally fit and started ballet at he same time, am beginning to realise the vitality, coordination, self esteem and well being it has yielded. Ballet is a wonderful form of self expression building fitness and posture and with regular devotion will on your outlook to life. My life is changed for go

  • that's awfull....not bad kids that choosed bad teacher....if they are paying money for that lessons i'm sorry for them...if teacher wants to get good result at least he has to show everything in full power.
