The first test to build an Atari joystick that has full NES functionality. Everything's A-OK except a minor problem with that pesky B button. Check it out. (sorry about the shaky camera work)

  • So let me get this straight:

You modded an NES controller and soldered a 9 pin connector on the board. Then, you converted the 9 pin switch to a subconverter and then soldered that to an Atari 2600 controller. Then you made another button and a start/select switch.

Sounds pretty complicated, but it looks like a good job so far.

  • You got it! The primary mod was the 9 pin connector to the NES controller. This gives me an easy plug and play setup for future experiment. Then, I modded an Atari 2600 joystick to give it 3 extra buttons so I could test out how it works on a NES. Slightly complicated, but nothing too bad. When I started I was gonna use a Genesis controller instead of an Atari to go into the NES, but THAT was complicated.

  • Oops, never mind, didn't realize you were going the other way (Atari -> NES). Cool beans! :)

  • Yeah, as best as I could tell nobody's gone the other way like this. I may be the first to try it. At first I wanted to go Genesis -> NES, but the button config for the Genesis is bazaar (dual function buttons/wires, one on pos. and 1 on neg. not really sure how that works, plus the nightmare amplifies with the 6 button config) so I decided to try out the Atari option.

  • Cool TV and NICE HOME BREW toys....!!!!

  • You know, you could save yourself the trouble and buy a Sega Genesis (Or possibly master system) controller. It plugs directly in and works perfectly, The D-pad works and B= Fire.

  • I like those apples lol.
