RICE AND BEANS (BEANS AND RICE)


My wife and I subscribe to the philosophy of financial advisor Dave Ramsey. We agree that financial stress is one of the leading causes in marital strife and we work hard to be responsible for every dollar that comes into our household. Dave's teachings aren't always what we like to hear but deep down we have to agree with him. Live beneath your means, save until you can pay with cash and prepare for your children's future.

One day while pondering these concepts it dawned on me that despite being one of the most popular radio shows in America, Dave didn't have his own theme song. So, being the songwriter that I am, I wrote one.

It is titled after an oft used phrase on the Dave Ramsey show. When advising a caller to cut their lifestyle to the bare minimum in order to fight their way out of debt, Dave will inform them it is time to convert to a rice and beans, beans and rice menu. It is a very powerful analogy and communicates the extremes one must go to in order to realize financial freedom. That's all I needed to get started. So here is my song "Rice and Beans (Beans and Rice)."
