Spiro is a Professor of Percussion at Indiana University, travels internationally as a percussion clinician for LP, and continues to be a presenter at PAS conferences around the country. He has authored several books on Afro-Cuban music and percussion, produced a number of acclaimed instructional videos and DVDs, and is the founder of two widely acknowledged educational websites—"CongaMasterClass.com" and "SambaMasterClass.com"..
Spiro continues to maintain his musical status in San Francisco, California, where among his many activities, he co-leads "Conjunto Karabali" with fellow LP artist Karl Perrazo from Santana.
In 2010, Michael Spiro collaborated with LP in creating the innovative LP Hi-Hat Shekere (LP485). "For both drummers and percussionists, the Hi-Hat Shekere adds a traditional percussion sound to their setup—and for the first time—without having to add a separate player to provide it," explains Spiro. "Percussionists and drummers of all styles of music will find the Hi-Hat Shekere to be an easy and convenient way to add a classic percussive sound to their sonic palette." Supporting this innovation, Spiro along with LP created a series of instructional online videos.
