I stopped by the Dallas Cowboys training facility Valley Ranch, to see for myself the devastation from last Saturdays unfortunate accident.
This past Saturday 4/2/09, the structure affectionately known as "The Bubble" that covers one of the practice fields at the Valley Ranch facility collapsed. Up to 70 members of the team and media were in side of the structure.
While there were several minor injuries, several were also serious.
Today the Dallas Cowboys released more medical details to the three members of the Dallas Cowboys family who were seriously injured.
Assistant athletic trainer Greg Gaither had surgery Saturday night to repair a fractured tibia and fibula in his right leg. He should be released from Baylor Medical Center later this week.
New special teams coach Joe DeCamillis is in stable condition and is expected to undergo surgery Monday morning at Parkland to stabilize a fractured cervical vertebrae.
The most critical of the injuries involved scouting assistant Rich Behm, 33, who suffered a severed spinal cord that will cause permanent paralysis from the waist down. Behm was rushed to Parkland Hospital in Dallas after the collapse.
My prayers go out to all members of the Dallas Cowboys, ESPECIALLY those in the bubble, and those who was injured.
Here is a statement from the National Weather Service regarding the conditions at the time:

"PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
842 PM CDT SAT MAY 2 2009

RESULTS OF VALLEY RANCH DAMAGE SURVEY...BASED ON A SURVEY OF THE ON-SITE DAMAGE...RADAR IMAGERY...AND EYEWITNESS REPORTS...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DETERMINED THAT A MICROBURST IMPACTED THE VALLEY RANCH AREA OF FAR NORTH IRVING. MAXIMUM WINDS NEAR THE GROUND WERE ESTIMATED NEAR 70 MPH. RESEARCH HAS INDICATED THAT WIND SPEEDS IN HIGH WIND EVENTS OFTEN INCREASE CONSIDERABLY IN THE LOWEST FEW HUNDRED FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. THEREFORE...IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE THAT WINDS GREATER THAN 70 MPH AFFECTED THE UPPER PORTIONS OF THE DAMAGED STRUCTURES. A MICROBURST IS A SMALL...INTENSE DOWNDRAFT WHICH RESULTS IN A LOCALIZED AREA OF STRONG THUNDERSTORM WINDS. IN EXTREME CASES...MICROBURSTS CAN HAVE WINDS WHICH EXCEED 100 MPH."
