@televisewhatyouwant What 50033836 said is very true, although that particular lyric I understood personally as being about friends shouldering the weight for each other, like not making each other pay, being their for each other. Just my personal reading, I don't know Guy's intentions

@televisewhatyouwant It's a song that Guy Garvey wrote about a childhood friend of his who died of a disease (not sure if it was cancer, can't rememeber) not too long before they started producing Seldom Seen Kid. The shoulder charge is exactly that. It's referring to play-fighting. =) The main lyrics of the song "Love you, mate." was how Guy and his friend would say goodbye to one another.

Im a Yorkshire lad and, Ive followed the music of Elbow for a long time. Ive always admired the lead mans power as a lyricist throughout his Career. I would say that the Manchester band has tones of the industrial past of the North of England. They seem to cascade deeply for me. It is like poetry.
Sometimes its said that the music doesnt have any decent beat or that one song deviates too much from the previous one heard; but for me its like shifting emotion with deep meaning.
