Japan remains in a state of emergency three days after a devastating earthquake and tsunami hit the country. An estimated 10,000 people have died and Japan is facing the worst nuclear crisis since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Democracy Now! interviews Harvey Wasserman, longtime anti-nuclear activist and the editor of NukeFree.org. He is also a senior adviser to GreenPeace USA and is the author of the book, "Solartopia! Our Green-Powered Earth."

  • Infinite growth on a finite planet is not possible. We create and consume to much waste. Our way of life can not be sustained and nobody wants to acknowledge it or accept our fate!

  • @liammail6969 50 years sooner? So you want to be born in the age when the U.S. And Soviet Union were going all out with nuclear weaponry? I think you mean, you want to be born a 100 years earlier before nuclear science was created. Sorry to burst your bubble, but, nuclear power will never be stopped. At the moment, it provides more power than wind, sun, and water. The U.S. uses too much power to shut down all of the plants. Unless you can harness 9.0 earthquakes, nuclear power is here to stay.

  • Stop nuclear power! We have the wind, the sun, water. Sadly I think it's far too late to try to save the planet. Most people are all wrapped up in reality tv, celebrity, so poor and have to work for too little money to make ends meet. Less than %1 (the ultra rich) of the world controls the rest us. I wish I was born 50 years sooner. I and millions are now suffering and witnessing the end of this beautiful planet all because of human greed and selfishness. :-*(

  • Zeolite sandbag? Anybody inspected them? Or this is just an externalization measure for the suicide nuclear bomb corporate industrialists?

  • What a bunch of alarmists... Sure some radiation has reached around the world an out of context that sounds terrible... however in context the amounts are "negligible".

Not quite sure about the slam on Obama as the poster sounds like [they] are looking for anything to slam him on... this equals no credibility in my book.

Remain calm people... your own panic is more of an issue than the problem in Japan!

  • Sorry for the mistake. Builderburger is the correct spelling.

  • Obama want's us to build more atomic plants in the U.S. What kind of an asshole is this ? WE HAVE HAD THE PLANS FOR A HUNDRED YEARS (FROM TESLA) , BUT THE "ROCKAFELLERS, THE ROTHCHILDS, THE BUILDABURGERS WON'T LET US USE THEM. ZERO POINT ENERGY. WE HAVE ALL THE ATOMIC ENERGY ALL AROUND US. THE AIR YOU'R BREATHING HAS ATOMS WITH ELECTRONS RUNNING AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT, AND IT CAN BE UTILIZED NOW, NOW, NOW, NOW

  • 29 MARCH 2011... whats going on???... just heard that very low levels of radiation have now reached Britain and Ireland.............. are the Japanese government really telling the truth and could this be worse than Chernobyl?? Why the hell build nuke plants near to fault lines anyway??

  • check out BBC breaking news right now.... Japan just raised their level

  • @Zelloniu im for real solutions.not solutions that give birth to new problems .thats all.
