Excellent movie. Speilberg may be alittle bit of an emotionally "disney like" director, if you compare to Stanely Kubrick for an example, but this movie is classic. If you want to see how the location of the shooting looks today, watch /watch?v=_ovtZq2dbuY

I have never before or since seen a movie that blew me away like this one. This movie had me crying for hours after it was over, then crying again every time I tried to talk about it. I saw this in 1982, I was eleven and I was very much like Elliott. It was like I was watching a movie about myself. And now at 40, I don't think the movie has lost one bit of its power. It's absolutely astonishing... and it's not even my favorite Spielberg movie! That's Close Encounters.

@HeaveyMeatel1234 it was on the laserdisc edition. Those things are obsolete. They are big optical discs.

@lemonpower45 same here. E.T. is my favorite movie of all time even though i used to terrified of it as a kid. i own four versions i.e. the vhs green video tape, the single disc 2002 version, the 2 disc colllector's edition, and the ultimate gift set.
