Sergeant MacKenzie was bayoneted to death at the age of 35, while defending one of his badly injured fellow soldiers in the hand-to-hand fighting of the trenches.

WW1 it was all about mass slaughter only way you could advance would be that you developed a new weapon (tanks for exmp.) or you threw gas... Or if you had more men charging then enemy had bullets....
In Vietnam was pretty much the same thing but with automatic weapons and napalm... You said it wright you can see veterans in doc. movies testifying, terrain, the heat.... don't forget bobby traps Charlie loved to put and tunnels they digged under you, just pull you down to die horrifying death...

In world war 1 it was trench warfare. hundreds of thousands of guys would take turns charging to their deaths and make no gains either way for months. It was mass slaughter.
These battles, like the Ia Drang were personal. It was hand to hand in 5 foot tall elephant grass. There are stories of men being within feet of the enemy and not knowing until a machine gun was cutting grass 12 inches above their heads from less than three feet away.

i dunno but this music and the movie We Were Soldiers is one of my favorites with Mel Gibson about a brilliant commander of US troops in Vietnam 400 of them against 4000 charlies. They killed 1800 and retreated with all dead and wounded. So i guess happened in Vietnam. I'm not sure but that kind of scenario is more probable for Nam where they charged with bayunetes in WW1 no one would be to bothered about 2 guys in no man's land. Still that SGT is a true war hero.

No I think it was in WWI in France? He was given Medal Of Honour. Correct me if I'm wrong

yeah, basically Sgt MacKenzie was moving up with his best mate, he went down. And for some reason the Sergeant didn't have the heart to continue without him. He stood his ground with his friend, and defended his body. After receiving a horrible number of bayonets to his chest, he finally collapsed and died of his wounds. Very powerful...
It isnt Bohemia interactive studios who used the song in their game. I have edited the song into my own fan video. its a tribute to the similar scene in "we were soldiers" with the same song.
