This is the Tinkerbell, a rubber powered ornithopter I designed and built. It still needs trimming on the last part of the flight phase, it tends to dive at the end.
Flown at a closed train station with 15/16 meter ceiling to the rafters.

  • cool man, do you have any SIMPLe Plans you could show that involve not bending wire? id appreciate it. ( i dont got wire OR wire bender!) THANKS!

  • You really need to use wire for specific parts, nothing else would work, for example the rubber motor hooks, crankshaf and wing hinges.

Wire can be found at music store, as piano wires or electric guitar strings, as for a wire bender I didn´t use anything more sophisticated than a pair of long nosed pliers to bend all the wires.

  • have any plans for this one? Im intrested in building one that lasts this long in the air, my max time is 30 sec.

  • I drew very sketchy plans for this model, if you have experience with indoor planes and ornithopters it should be enough for you. Send me a message with your e-mail adress and I´ll give you the plans and some reference pictures.

OnlySanePerson, the covering on the wings is 5 or 10 micron aluminized mylar, I don´t recall the exact thickness.

  • What material was used for the wings?

  • I used aluminized Mylar for the wings and tail, very tough and lightweight.
