Probably one of my most favorite Beefheart songs. Saw him play this live in '70 or '71. It was the first concert I had ever gone to and the most memorable.

I saw it also and the thing that amazed me along with them playing Veterans Day Poppy... was that they could actually do it... live... note for note.... even the strange and beautiful time change in the transition of Veterans Day Poppy.

That was magic.

And I would not have believed that possible if I had not seen it and heard it.

Beefhearts music in Doctor Dark reminds me of a Kafka story called A Country Doctor which is a heady mix of symbols and dreams and poetry.

Unique genius both.
