Sounds like Vietnam. The neo-con warhawks keep getting their way, and we just keep getting deeper into a "failed strategy".

I am so sick of David Brooks.

The fact you have to ask that is a testament to the failure of the american publics lack of ability to think.

to won you must at some point win. To have failed you must first fail. We win for as long as Iraq is stable and growing as a free nation as it is now. There will always be challenges, unless of course you choose to fail, which would make you a failure.. then you will have no challenge. Terror prefers no challenge on your part, they prefer failure on your part. Being speculative as you are about victory, defining it in an impenetrable way is what terrorist love.

Sure most people agree that violence is down. What they forget to mention is that:

a) we're no closer to "winning Iraq" (whatever it might mean this month) or
b) by staying in Iraq we are creating terrorists, not defeating global terrorism, or
c) we can't afford the $ or the soliders.

I believe those have been Obama's points all along. It's odd they don't mention it.

War is not black and white
A)War is not a game, you dont win-lose-tie, you achieve victory after victory.. This war is not Coats versus rebels, its complex, if you keep expecting something else you are insane
B)That's absurd, so you say by not surrendering to terror, we perpetuate it,.. no actually surrendering to terror perpetuates it.
C)The military branch accounts for 25% of the US budget, we can easily afford that especially when the money is paying to our men and women.
Obama has no points.

pretty much Robguy66.....little fact worth ignoring when it comes to mainstream media. The dumper and clueless Americans are, unless the gutless Dems enlighten them.....the more likely such a lie is sold to the public.

after all, 80% of Americans believed Iraq had something to do with 9-11 before the invasion, thanx to the media!

Of course the surge is working. We're paying billions of dollars to warring factions to not shoot at us. How long do you think we'll keep throwing billions?

If enough people vote for McCain, we will find out.
