continued from last comment....it cant be easy for kate when she begins to record a new album with the weight of die-hard fans great expectations on her shoulders.the same day, i also was the cross, the line, the curve and was amazed by the well constructed video on there and the overall concept.when kate released the red shoes album,i criticized her for not going on tour again, but the cross, the line, the curve more than made up for that.love red sheos video.

continued from last comment.....eat to the beat, but my favourite from the album is the title track-completely mad but absolutely brilliant song which couldve easily been lifted from the dreaming album.red shoes album put kate back on track, and i think [....o god,i hope im not beaten up for saying this]it was kates way of apologising to die-hard fans in particular for the sensual world album.continue on next comment......

in nov 1995,when i just turned 24 years old,was the first time i heard the red shoes album[two years after its release] when a kate bush fan gave me a loan of the album and the cross the line the curve on video.i was very disappointed with the sensual world album[1989] and because of that,i listened to it with great caution.i was pleasantly surprised by the album with it riddled with brilliant, well crafted songs like lilly, and so is love, top of the city[amazing],continue in next comment....

Somewhere deep inside there is a humanity in all of us. I beleive that. How long we realize this is the question. MLK would say " Not Long ".

I love you Kate bush. As a songwriter you have influenced me tremendously. As a man I don't know what it's like to be a woman. But I believe we share the same vunerabilities as a Human species.

I miss Bob Edwards...he was a class act on NPR.

I'd say Kate's probably at 3.5 octaves, at a push.

Thankyou :)

"Lily" from Kate's album "The Red Shoes".

"Rumbling bass"? Ugh, no... she's a mezzo/soprano and had no more than 3 octaves. Good interview though. Thanks!

There are some very low notes on "The Dreaming", but we have no way to know if it was accomplished with studio trickery. The term "4 octave range" gets tossed around far too frequently. That's Yma Sumac territory.
Happy Rhodes has a genuine 4 octave range, from A2 to G-Sharp6 which I have witnessed live. It's downright shocking to hear a soprano sing a note that low.

I am pretty sure all the low parts in The Dreaming were Kate's actual voice, but she never had a 4 octave range. Since we're talking about big ranges, you probably know about Nina Hagen - back in the late 70s to mid 80s she had a huge range! Happy sounds too much like a Kate clone to me.

Happy can sound like Kate in some early songs, but she has an additional high voice that sounds nothing like Kate.
I only mention her because she I know, for sure, exactly what her range is. Nina has an astounding range, but I'd be interested in what her lowest and highest sung sounds ("ah" and "la") are, compared to her highest and lowest sung lyrics. (My favorite Nina album is "Nunsexmonkrock".)
