HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) -- Starting Thursday night the homeless who sleep on the steps of the Hamilton County Court House will have to find another place to lay their heads. The homeless have been sleeping outside the courthouse and in the justice center area for several years. But a new policy being implemented by Sheriff Jim Neil will evict them from the area starting Thursday night. Sheriff Neil announced the plan over the summer and no trespassing signs were put up last week in advance of the evictions. The department says it will work with social services agencies to help the homeless find centers where they can sleep. But four homeless men are not going quietly. They've filed a federal lawsuit to stop the evictions on the grounds that their constitutional rights are being violated. The Sheriff says the homeless who sleep on the steps pose a public health hazard because of the mess that's left behind each morning, including human excrement.
