Travelzoo advises UK travellers to be vigilant when searching travel deals after 1 November, 2010. Travelzoo, the travel deals experts, warn that substantial increases to Airport Passenger Duty (APD), which comes into force on 1 November 2010, for all routes out of the UK may come as an unwelcome surprise to many holidaymakers. It strongly advised that travellers check that advertised travel prices do include the new taxes.

  • I purchased air flights last night for next May. Can this new tax be added when I travel, or is the price I've paid safe?

  • @mandyb63 Hi Mandy, you may still be liable to pay the tax despite paying for the ticket before 1 November 2010, but this will depend on which airline you are travelling with. We recommend you check with your carrier to find this out.

  • A lot of complaining from the aviation industry about the rise in Air Passenger Duty. They are misleading people. The aviation industry is not over-taxed. Even with the rise in APD it is still undertaxed. The Exchequer is losing around £10 billion because aviation fuel is tax-free and the industry pays no VAT. The income from APD is still well below half that figure.
