Turkey Hunt 3-21-07

I was guideing a 13 year old young man (Matthew) & his dad (Eric) on Matthews first turkey hunt. He had never seen, heard, or watch one strute before. We got to our location early before the sun came up. Set-up and still had some time, as the sun began to rise I did a hoot owl locater nothing. Again a few seconds later and they hit 3 then 2 at them and 1 about 75 yards out from use. We needed to move so we did fast, I moved the decoys and we where raedy. (We where using a B-mobile w/ a jake fan & a hen decoy) The bird came in on a sring, then the worse thing happened. I gave Matthew the go to shoot and CLICK he forgot to load the gun. (you can hear it in the video) Then His dad shot and missed, and I finished him off.

In the video at the end if you watch very closely the last shot is me. I killing the bird, he is my biggest ever. He had a 12-3/4" beard & 1-1/4" spurs weight 23lbs. When we got back to the truck I layed the gobbler on the tail gate, and thought i'd call just to see what would happen. 2 birds nailed right back to me, so we moved in on them and I think we got a little close.

The gun is a Charles Daily, I had one in the past and it did the same. Mine was an automatic, the one in the video was a pump. The gun acctually fired, but there wasn't a shell in the chamber. Then when he tried to reload the gun jammed.

Well, did he get the bird or not???? I've hunted wild gobblers for years. In a 'miss' situation, it sometimes works...to just stay put, wait a little while...and start calling again. Yep, I've gotten some dandies...and love the sport. Stay safe, and enjoy!!!

Hey. What gun was that that jammed? Should never have happend with a turkey load going through it. Lemee know so i never end up with one. I use a camo Benelli nova pump anyway but still would be useful info. Thanks.
