Goals: Dennis Tueart 2, Joe Royle, Paul Power; Bruce Rioch, Colin Todd.

Mike Doyle was sent off in this one for punching Colin Todd.

  • Why didn't the ref send off Leighton James as well. If there ever was a player who deserved to be sent off was James for starting on Doyle. Nice to see at his peak Leighton James had an appalling attitude towards fellow pros as he did towards ball boys.

  • Popular myth is that Colin Bell got injured against Man Utd in November 1975 and didn't make the first team again until famously returning in December 1977 as sub against Newcastle. He did return the same season as his injury though and played in this game (though clearly not fit) then got injured again against Arsenal a few weeks later
