  • isn't this elimination because the "y" was eliminated first?

  • It is elimination, elimination by substitution. There are two ways to do the "elimination" algebraically: by substitution or by addition. Because in this one a variable takes the place of another, it is called "elimination by substitution."

  • oh thx. now i remember i'm doing this in math now but we learned it last year we are just revising and i can never quite tell! also we just call the 2 methods elimination and substution
