Renault 2.1 Turbo Diesel Jeep Cherokee

This is a 1986 Renault 2.1 turbo diesel from a Jeep Cherokee that was in an accident. I bought this 1985 with a siezed V6 engine and swapped everything accross. It is still a work in progress and there are many things on it that are kind of patched together to keep it running at the moment. It is my hope to restore this one to very nice condition though obviously it is a long way away.

Yeah the 2.1 is a real head turner. I'm slowly putting more and more together on it. The goal is to turn it into a daily driver. The motor gets an unfair rap - it's a good design and I like it. Parts are a bitch but I'm sorting out my sources and stuff is available - albeit normally expensive with the current european exchange rates.

@craigdge I've for a 85 2.1TD also. I get my engine parts from Mobility RV in Hanlontown Iowa. They are pretty much the only game in town and it shows in there prices. Just don't let it over heat because I did and I cracked a cylinder liner. They charged me $150 for a used liner and matching piston! Luckily more common parts like starters and alternators can be had online at various auto part stores for cheap.

Those engines are VERY rare and its nice to see another XJ enthuasist keeping the good old XJ's alive.
