Mozart - piano sonata no. 14 in C minor KV 457.
Movement 3. ALLEGRO ASSAI
pf. Vadim Chaimovich

Relation to Beethoven's "Pathétique"

Of this sonata Köchel said "Without question this is the most important of all Mozart's pianoforte sonatas. Surpassing all the others by reason of the fire and passion which, to its last note, breathe through it, it foreshadows the pianoforte sonata, as it was destined to become in the hands of Beethoven."

Indeed, Mozart's sonata feels in several ways prophetic of Beethoven's great C minor sonata Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, "Pathétique" (which it predates by roughly fifteen years), and both works share a similar overall plan. Listeners will note that Mozart's theme in his spacious second movement is remarkably similar to that which Beethoven used in his own "Adagio cantabile" second movement.

  • there is one person (aka IDIOT) who disliked this performance. Thumbs up who thinks he is a LOOSER! :P

Brilliant performance, no need to say anything else... BRAVO!

  • @missclairecooper .. this is lacking certain smoothness? What are you talking about? You simply can not fault anything about his performance, but ofcourse there has to be an 'odd' person here and there (like you), who can not help themselves but to say something negative when in actuality you know he played it 'perfectly', so please don't post a negative comment and then end it with 'outstanding performance'- what a contradiction! Why are pianists so judgemental of others?

  • This pianist does an excellent job of this piece but Mozart once said "my music should flow like oil" and I felt this was lacking a certain smoothness. Also when this piece was written, the pedal on the piano was just being invented and so to use the pedal Mozart would have had to lift his knee. Therefore, minimal use of the pedal is vital in the performance of the piece. Nevertheless, a really outstanding performance :)

  • Bravo !

  • Captivating from beginning to end

  • Mozart is the greatest composer. I would like to have been around in the late 18th century to hear Mozart perform live.

  • I love playing Mozart! You have done a remarkable job in my opinion, for what it's worth!
