  • your videos are great. I am trying to remove the head set from a schwinn super sport i recently bought. the quill is proving a bitch to get out. is this just rust or am i missing something obvious? all the bolts, nuts, and other hardware have been removed or loosened and its still not coming out. i have been giving it a good dose of wd 40 every day. any suggestions?

  • @savageknives1 probably just rust. Over many years rusting the quill and steer tube can seemingly fuse.

Put a lot of penetrating oil (wd-40 or liquid wrench) in there and let it sit over night or for a couple of days, that should loosen it up.

  • i have a fixie with a standard stem and all threadless, is there any way to swith to a quill stem withought having to buy a new threaded fork and threaded headset?

  • @DrakeHawton No sir.

  • my quill stem is being a bitch to take off. i think its rusted together. i tried hammering it out. twisting but it wont give in. any suggestions on how to take it out with out damaging anything?

  • @LxHxCx661 use some liquid wrench or wd-40 and let it soak!!!! Then try again.

  • Just got my fixie..i wanna assemble it correctly n b able to keep it in good shape.just don't exactly know how -___-

  • Are quill stem compatible with thread less forks?

  • wat kind of stem is that?

  • @savageknives1 I just recently replaced the bearings in a 1984 raleigh and had a similar problem. I had to heat my steer tube and headset. once they expanded i was able to separate them. Thermal expansion.

  • quill stems look so sexy, but if they made one that went 360 instead of 359

  • @savageknives1 you can also loosen the bolt a couple turns and hit the bolt with a hammer and the quill part inside will just pop out

  • ah thanks man.. i dont know how to remove stem, after seeing your vid, now i know how. just loose from the stem :)

  • Excellent video - very helpful... but I was a fool to follow fashion and cut down my bars to a 'bullhorn'. I've tried a billion angles and bar heights, but years on drops have made my arms unable to adapt. 80s 531 fixie now ruined by my curiosity. I am now a bullhorn fashion victim :o(

  • @ShiftlessBastards Thank you. thats what i needed to know. ill keep working at it.
