Wild horses? Are you sure you didn't borrow them from the local 4H club? They seemed like they were pretty tame to me. People did everything they possibly could to excite them and get them to act wild.
Anyway, a tradition of being unkind to animals is nothing to be proud of. It's well proven by now that you can tame and train a wild horse without ever having to use much if any force. Just convince the horse you're a good leader and the horse will follow you. It works.

Im a horse trainer and i have never found it nessasary to pull a horse over on its back. I have rarely had horses buck in training because of the methods I use. Very simple methods I should add. These are not real cowboys! Serious injury to horse and antagonizer does happen in this event. No respect for the animal, just entertainment at the animals expense. If someone threw a dog on its back and handled it that way they would be arrested!
