Lyrics
Scottis English
Comin thro the rye
1. Gin a body meet a body
Comin' thro' the rye
Gin a body kiss a body
Need a body cry?
Ilka lassie has her laddie
Nane, they say, hae!
Yet a' the lads they smile at me
When comin' thro' the rye.
3. 'Mang the train there is a swain
I dearly lo'e myself
But what his name or whaur his hame
I dinna care to tell
Ilka lassie has her laddie
Nane, they say, hae!
Yet a' the lads they smile at me
When comin' thro' the rye
Standar English
Coming through the rye
Should a body meet a body
Coming through the rye. Should a body kiss a body, Need no body cry?
Every lassie has her laddie, None, they say, have I. Yet all the lads they smile at me, When coming through the Rye.
Among the train there is a swain,
I dearly love myself.
But what his name o where his home
I do not care to tell.
Every lassie has her laddie,
None, they say, have I.
Yet all the lads they smile at me,
when coming through the Rye.
Spanish
Pasando por el campo de Centeno
Si alguien se encuentra con otro,
Atravesando el campo de centeno
Si alguno besa a otra
¿Quién ha de llorar?
Cada moza tiene su mozuelo
Ellas dicen, yo ninguno tengo
Empero todos los muchachos me sonríen
Cuando atravieso el campo de Centeno.
En el tren viene un pastorcito
A quien mucho yo amo yo
Pero cómo se llama y a dónde vive
No quisiera decirlo
Cada moza tiene su mozuelo
Ellas dicen, yo ninguno tengo.
Empero todos los muchachos me sonríen
Cuando atravieso el campo de centeno.
I liked this, it was well done and strange though this may sound it was fun to listen to.

Without any doubt the most remarkable version of the song I ever heard in 45 years.
And justice to the song or not, I think it is a welcome variation ánd clever. Yes, I do appreciate this duet very much. A very gay approach and if you hear balladsinger Jo Stafford's
interpretation with full orchestra, Jo sounds almost classical and the classic diva Rosa Ponselle sounds the other way round, like singing on a fair! Funny.
But all nice and interesting, like a field of flowers.

Isn't the other singer Rosa Ponselle's sister, Carmela Ponselle? They made a few duets together and originally appeared as a vaudeville team. A rather fanciful version of this song; but I must admit very few singers do it justice, even the Ponselles. My favorite for this song is Melba.
