Big Cat Rescue has "Jungle Friends."
BCR not only is able to help conservation efforts around the globe, but also lends a hand to local facilites as well. Big Cat Rescue volunteers led by Scott have built enclosures and helped out at a primate facility just north of us in Gainesville, Fl.
Jungle Friends is home to many former "pet" monkeys and new world primates used at labs and research facilities.

  • where do you get the monkeys?

  • You can visit their website, junglefriends*org

  • I just visited Hot Springs Arkansas petting zoo that is advertised all over as a huge tourist attraction and was horrified to see the two 12 year old guenons they have in a little cage with no stimulation whatsoever and in a very dark building. I am furious at Hhot Springs for advertising this place, as a nice place to visit. I wish someone could negotiate obtaining the primates from them. I think it is a private, family owned business; at least it looks like that.

  • Curioushum, do they have any accreditations? If they do you can contact the accrediting organizations. Check your messages I am sending you a private message.

  • my dad works for covance... one of the largest pharmaceutical research, development and manufacturing services companies... we also have many monkeys lolz

  • Good point. Many monkeys (and cats and dogs) are used in research.

But very very rarely does a DR. ever rely on such animal research as medication is always tested on people as well. But old habits are hard to break, as there is big money invloved in that.

  • Excellent! These people make me happy, so great that they rescued and are caring for those lil guys. They deserve to have something nice after they where treated poorly. We need more places like this for these unfortunate situations and people should be more aware when it comes to unhappy animals.

  • I've heard of this place before. The monkeys all seem very happy and responsive, which is wonderful. It's especially sweet to see how they've been able to give poor Travis companionship. Thanks for giving it the publicity it needs!

  • Awesome work, nice to know these monkeys have been given a second chance :-)

  • aww i love squirrel- i can never spell this frickin word- monkeys

    they're so cute

  • I second that!!! Sounds like something that should be done to child rapist and killers. Much better than doing that to a kitty or a dog.

  • Actually, all the information DRs rely on is based on animal testing as you can't test on humans without first testing on animals...

  • I'm assuming that the reason they can't have visitors and tour groups is due to the monkeys reacting badly to humans invading their territory? Too bad - it would probably help them raise money.
