@absoftitanium that was deep, man. I dont believe that Koko doesnt really know language. Ive seen proof from many videos on youtube.

So exactly what is this fucktard trying to get across? 'Hey, look at me, I can communicate better than a gorilla!' No shit, Sherlock. You can define 'language' as narrowly as you want to try to exclude animals if you want, then what? You get to keep on thinking of animals as having no communication, no feelings, no rights. From what I've seen, Koko expresses more real feelings and emotion than you are even capable of, never mind the fucking syntax and grammar you seem to think are all-important.

That was like a very interesting comedy monologue!

As a child my dream was to teach sign language to gorillas... I even got a sign language book from a library and started to learn </3 I love them so much.

Post the Wednesday class.... :D

This is a good explanation of what I had thought of Patterson previously.
Kanzi was notably more successful.

This is really interesting and cool! Thank you!
@absoftitanium & @happyhoppip How do you respond to his statement that Patterson kept enabling Koko? She would ask Koko "what is this?" and Koko would give completely the wrong sign and she'd say "stop kidding around." So if Koko got it right then it was evidence that she understood but if she got it wrong then she was just joking and it didn't count?
I have seen the videos too. I've seen the transcript of Koko's AOL chat session and it's pretty clear to me that Koko didn't have a clue.

it's a shame there was no actual scientific work done with Koko. It's clear that she can communicate at a very high level. One day someone will try again, I hope.

@tinytaby87 Have you ever seen the transcript of the AOL chatroom session? It's not clear to me at all that Koko had much understanding of what was going on. Patterson apparently won't allow anyone to independently confirm any of her assertions, so we'll probably never see a real scientific study with Koko. The work with that one bonobo looks promising though.
