Your discussion of what constitutes "value" is subjective. Laughing at the government and religion has value to you and yet is this not entertainment? As long as you discriminate within your own value system you will judge, and isolate. Those things you value with seriousness torment you because you always fall short of your ideal. There is value in everything. The world is balanced only through your perception. Creating higher and lower values polarizes you and everything around you.

Great Video!

it seems we share a similar sense of humor, one of my favorite clips here on youtube is from one of my countrymen Ricky Gervais, I think you would get a kick out of this: (just add this bit to you tube dot com) /watch?v=E_EXqdJ4L7I

I see your point of using YouTube as a tool for discussion, but its still a tool. I feel anything for any purpose should be here. Sure the guy finding out how many bean up the nose get him a trip to the hospital isn't going to spark much genius, but I think he should post it if he feels like it. You can have both pop and meaningful here.
BTW, kids don't put beans up your nose, they will get stuck and then mom and dad will take your highspeed internet away.

If you can't take care of yourself you definately can't do anything for others or about the state of the world.

Clearly they don't have the same value, but you need to have, as someone said, a balance. That balance is what keeps some of us from jumping off a roof or putting a bullet through our heads, so in that sense they do have value for many. There is nothing "idealistic" in my opinion about worrying about the world and things that have "value" to the exclusion of all else and to the point of depression or suicide.

I pretty much agreed with everything you said darn it. I do however have some comments to make. I'm semi-retired or self-unemployed as renetto puts it, so many of my days are spent doing volunteer work, both for political candidates and in homeless shelters. On youtube I subscribe to you and warren25 among other channels that generally deal with "things of value" but I also watched "Ben takes a photo of himself everyday" and subscribe to renetto...

I see the YouTube experience as being capable of being well rounded. I make serious (potentially educational) blogs on topics that I'm thinking about, I make personal blogs in which I discuss my life and feelings, and I make comedy videos to entertain. But even much of my comedy has an educational or subversive sort of stripe to it. I think that if we look at much of what people do, we can start to get to know them, even if they aren't entirely verbally disclosing their inner secrets.
Hey mrmorton, my own perspective on this issue I believe is always "awareness", ie to determine whether 3 hours of tv is pure relaxation and escapism, aware that relaxation and passive enjoyment is important for humans from time to time or whether passively watching hours of tv becomes a insular lifestyle rather than a reasoned choice to relax for a couple of hours.

I think you hit the nail right on the head, here. Definitely something I'll bring up in my video on 'values'.

I know where you are coming from and this ideal can be applied to many things from film, to fiction, to television, to music. Unfortunately all of these outlets of expression are usually fueled by the want of money or success, so by that token they try to appeal to the masses. I really enjoy thought provoking material, but then again I enjoy a cheap laugh as well.

Agreed. I absolutely love to laugh, and some times I'm pretty embarrassed at the things I find funny :)
